Opto Maul

The Latitude 64° Maul is a fairway driver built to defy gravity. It was developed for players who need a disc that stays aloft with very little power; whether you are a beginner looking for your first "straight" driver or an experienced pro needing a specialized turnover tool, the Maul delivers. Its standout feature is its industry-leading glide, which allows it to maintain its altitude and cover distance that usually requires a much faster disc.

Crafted in our legendary Opto plastic, the Maul is as resilient as it is effective. Opto is a premium, translucent plastic known for its extreme durability and firm, consistent grip in all weather conditions. The Maul excels in the woods where its ability to hold a slow, panning anhyzer line can be the difference between a birdie and a bogey. It’s a disc that rewards a smooth, clean release with a flight path that seems to float forever.

Features and Benefits

  • Incredible Range: Speed 7 and Glide 7 make this one of the most efficient discs for generating distance with moderate arm speed.

  • Controlled Understability: The -2 turn allows the disc to flip up to flat easily, providing a long and straight flight path through narrow gaps.

  • Soft Landing: A Fade of 1 ensures a predictable finish without being too aggressive, making it easy to range on the fairway.

  • Opto Plastic: Known for its beautiful translucent finish and its ability to withstand hits against trees and obstacles on technical courses.

  • Beginner Friendly: An excellent choice for players moving up from midranges who want a driver that won't immediately fade out.

  • Technical Shot-Shaping: Ideal for tailwind drives, long rollers, and high-altitude play where discs naturally act more stable.

  • PDGA Approved: Fully certified for professional and amateur tournament play worldwide.

FAQ

Opto is our premium, translucent plastic blend engineered to withstand the harshest course conditions. It is incredibly resistant to tree hits, rock scrapes, and heavy impacts, ensuring that your disc retains its original flight characteristics for a very long time. It is the absolute best choice for players who want their go-to discs to maintain their reliable, predictable flight round after round.

Opto provides a slightly stiffer feel and a smooth, premium grip that inspires championship confidence. Due to its dense and resilient composition, discs molded in Opto plastic typically start out slightly more overstable out of the box compared to our baseline blends, providing exceptional torque resistance for powerful throws.

Customers praised this understable fairway driver for its exceptional glide and predictable flight path. Many described it as "perfect for beginners" with "fantastic" turnover shots and hyzer flips. Reviewers highlighted its ability to achieve consistent distance (260-300+ feet) with minimal effort. The Opto plastic received praise for durability and feel. One critical review gave 2 stars without detail.

The Master of Endless Turn

Some discs fight to come back. The Maul in Opto plastic embraces the turn and makes it beautiful.

The Maul is the disc I reach for when I need a long, sweeping right-moving line that simply refuses to quit. Its understable nature creates a natural, effortless anhyzer flight that glides seemingly forever. Yet what makes it truly special is its balance: it turns exactly as much as I want it to, without unexpectedly fading out and without burning into a roller.

For players who don’t fully trust their forehand on right-finishing holes, the Maul feels like a secret weapon. It carves elegant turnover lines through the woods, follows wide right-bending fairways with ease, and reaches distances that few understable discs can match. The glide is extraordinary, allowing the disc to stay in the air long after most others would have faded to the ground.

The Opto plastic adds durability and consistency, ensuring that the Maul keeps delivering those beautiful turnover flights round after round.

If I could carry only one understable disc, the choice would be simple. The Maul offers control, confidence, effortless distance, and some of the most satisfying flights in disc golf. It doesn’t just turn—it soars, drifts, and glides exactly where you need it to go.

My favorite disc

Been disc golfing about 9 months and for a long time the River was my favorite disc. Not anymore. It took me about 2 rounds of 18 to learn the disc and now I feel extremely confident throwing my Opto Maul on a great line. On a slight hyzer it flips up to flat, has a gentle turn for a moment, then finishes with a slight fade. I’ve only broken 300’ a handful of times and quite by accident because I can’t do it on purpose but instead usually only reach 260-270 with my furthest discs. By the end of my second round today I was confidently and consistently hitting 280+ drive after drive. I believe it joined the 300-club today as well. This will be my go-to driver now, replacing my River except for shots I need to hold a hyzer line the entire time. Also…the Maul is an absolute beast whenever there is a left-to-right hole where I need my disc to hold an anhyzer the entire time and get max distance while turning right the whole time without turning over and crashing. I had a few of those shots today and the Maul performed flawlessly, which is a big deal for me since I don’t have a forehand to speak of. Best disc ever made.

Hey Todd,

Thank you for the review.
I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the Maul! :)

Opto Maul

Another great disc by Latitude 64. The Maul is very controllable and holds the line you put it on. The Opto plastic is Tournament Tough and wears well. Glad it’s in my bag.

A great disc

Bought this disc to replace one that I threw in a lake a couple of years ago. It was supposedly found, but many attempts to hook up with the guy who found it were unsuccessful. Finally decided to buy a new one and I am so glad to have it back in my bag! Flys better than I remembered and it just keeps pushing forward with accuracy. Got two birdies on holes I don’t usually reach. So glad to have one back in my bag.

Supernice beginner disc

Second summer of discgolf. Recently bought the Maul and I love it. As many other said: It's very predictable and the 7 glide really helps me in making longer shots.

The Opto Maul is my goto approach for straight shots

I lost my Opto Maul, and had to replace it as soon as possible. It is one of my most dependable discs for approach shots and really flies and glides nicely. I do hope this mould doesn’t go away.

I really like it, predictable as heck unbeatable disc

I feel like I get a nice predictable throw out of it. I’m relatively new to this and I like nice predictable throws. Plus. I wrote Darth on it and now it’s Star Warsy too!

The darth maul of dark horses

Just nice.

Understable for us in the 90-100m fairway driver category. However, nose down, slight hyzer and lots of air will make this disc glide forever with a nice S-curve. Otherwise, perfect for a hard thrown high turnover if you need it to turn 30 meters to the side. Will also go dead straight for 80 meters with less power and low height if that is your preference.

Highly recommended.

The mold and disc plastic is very nice.

I like how the disc feels and the grip I can achieve. I am very new to disc golf so I am sure I am not throwing the disc to its full capacity. So far I like all of the disc's I got from Latitude 64.

The cheat code disc

The perfect disc for the beginner to intermediate crowd, put it on hyzer and watch it flip and fly way farther than a 7 speed has any right to. This is the ultimate easy distance disc and for the intermediate crowd makes massive turnover lines and rollers as easy as can be. If you want a disc that flies far with minimal effort pick up a maul.

Good understable driver for my pathetic arm.
Can hyzer flip it relatively straight and has a nice curved flight pattern when thrown flat.
