What is disc golf?

Disc golf is played similarly to the game of golf, and the rules are simple. Instead of clubs and balls you play with discs/frisbees. And instead of a hole you have a basket, where metal chains slow down the disc, so it lands in the basket. The goal is to get through the course with the least number of throws.

What are the different types of discs?

First off, a golf disc is not the same as the frisbee you play catch with on the beach. A golf disc usually weighs a little bit more and is more aerodynamically shaped to cut through the air faster. Golf discs are divided into four main categories: Distance driver, Fairway driver, Midrange, and Putt & Approach.

Distance Driver

The fastest discs around. If you want to throw far, a Distance driver is the disc for you. With a low and wide rim, they cut to the air at high speeds. They generally have less glide than fairway drivers, and also a significant fade at the end of the flight. Not really a disc we would recommend for beginners as it would be more challenging to get good throws.

Fairway Driver

A Fairway driver is the perfect disc choice when you need both accuracy and distance. A slightly more narrow rim than on a Distance driver gives you less speed and more control. The extra glide that a lot of our Fairway drivers feature can give you almost as much distance as with a Distance driver. If you are new to disc golf you will find it easier to throw a Fairway driver.

Midrange

Midrange discs give you even more control than a Fairway driver. With less speed and an even more predictable flight path it can give you the confidence you need on the course. Our Midrange selection is versatile and can be used in many situations. If you want to start playing disc golf, a straight flying Midrange is definitely the disc you should pick up.

Putters

Putters flies slow and straight in the air and will give you the most control. When you are within striking distance of the basket you want a putter you can trust and feel comfortable with. Every player has their own unique playing style and likes to grip the disc in different ways. Therefore, our Putter discs are made in different molds and plastics.

Are there different plastics?

Yes, we have a wide selection of plastics and different effects. But these three below are our main plastics you should know about.

What is the best disc for a beginner?

You can of course play disc golf with just one disc, and in that case we would recommend a Midrange disc. This category of discs has the perfect mix of speed and control and can do it all.

Great discs for beginners

Perfect all-round starter discs, as well as a great choice for kids and players with slower arm speed.

What about starter sets?

A starter set is a great way to get started on your disc golf playing journey.

Where can I find a disc golf course?

Finding a local disc golf course is easy, depending on where you live of course. Some courses are full 18-hole courses, and some are 9-hole courses. The latter are usually more beginner friendly with shorter holes. The best thing is that disc golf courses are usually free to play. There are some pay to play disc golf courses – and these are usually of a very high standard. So, find a course that suits you, bring a friend and go for a round.
